Flood disaster words in News

မြန်မာပြည်မှာတင်မက ကမ္ဘာ့နေရာတော်တော်များများမှာပါ သဘာ၀ဘေးအန္တရာယ်အစုံကျရောက်နေတာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

ဒီရက် ရေကြီးနေတဲ့ သတင်းတွေ ဖတ်ပြီး အဲ့ထဲကနေ စကားလုံးမှတ်စုလေးတွေထုတ်ရင်း သတင်းဖတ်ရင် နားလည်ရလွယ်ကူဖို့ English ~ Myanmar ဝေါဟာရ မှတ်စုအနေနဲ့ မျှဝေလိုက်ပါတယ်။

1. Foreign aid 

~Help or money sent from other countries. 

~ နိုင်ငံခြားက အကူအညီ ပေးခြင်း။

Example: Myanmar received foreign aid after the floods.

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံက ရေ‌ဘေးပြီးနောက် နိုင်ငံခြားက အကူအညီယူခဲ့သည်။

2. Deadly floods 

~Floods that cause many deaths. 

~ လူအများဆုံးသေဆုံးစေသော ရေကြီးခြင်း။

Example: Deadly floods hit Myanmar, killing many people.

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံတွင် လူအများကြီး သေဆုံးသော ရေလွှမ်းမိုးမှု ဖြစ်ပွားသည်။

3. Floods and landslides 

~ When there is too much rain and water covers the land and when the earth moves down a slope.

~ ရေကြီးခြင်းနှင့် မြေပြိုခြင်း။

Example: Many areas were affected by floods and landslides.

နေရာတော်‌တော်များများတွင် ရေကြီးခြင်းနှင့် မြေပြိုခြင်းဖြစ်ပွားခဲ့သည်။

4. Typhoon Yagi 

~ A strong storm named "Yagi."

~ "Yagi" ဟုအမည်ပေးထားသော အလွန်ပြင်းထန်သည့် မုန်တိုင်း။

Example: Typhoon Yagi brought heavy rain to Myanmar.

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံကို Yagi မုန်တိုင်းက မိုးအလွန်များစွာ ရွာစေခဲ့သည်။

5. Rescued 

~ To save someone from danger.

~ အန္တရာယ်မှ လူကိုကယ်ဆယ်ခြင်း။

Example: Many people were rescued from the floods.

ရေကြီးခြင်းမှ လူအများစုကို ကယ်တင်ခဲ့သည်။

6. Volunteers 

~ People who help without being paid.

~ လစာမရဘဲ အကူအညီပေးသော လူများ။

Example: Volunteers helped to rescue flood victims.

လိုအပ်သော အကူအညီများပေးရန် စေတနာ၀န်ထမ်းများက ကူညီခဲ့သည်။

7. Amid 

~ In the middle of something.

~ အလယ်ဗဟိုတွင်။

Example: The rescue operations continued amid heavy rains.

အလွန်ပြင်းထန်သော မိုးရွာမှုကြားက ကယ်ဆယ်ရေးလုပ်ငန်းများ ဆက်လက်လုပ်ဆောင်ခဲ့သည်။

8. Widespread flooding 

~ Flooding over a large area.

~ ကျယ်ပြန့်သော ရေလွှမ်းခြင်း။

Example: Widespread flooding affected many towns.

ကျယ်ပြန့်သော ရေလွှမ်းခြင်းက မြို့အများကြီးကို အကျိုးသက်ရောက်စေခဲ့သည်။

9. State media 

~ News channels controlled by the government.

~ အစိုးရမှထိန်းချုပ်သော သတင်းမီဒီယာ။

Example: State media reported on the floods.

အစိုးရမီဒီယာက ရေလွှမ်းမှုသတင်းများကို ထုတ်ပြန်ကြေညာခဲ့သည်။

10. Displaced 

~ Forced to leave home because of danger.

~ အန္တရာယ်ကြောင့် နေရပ်စွန့်ခွာရသော။

Example: Thousands of people were displaced due to the floods.

ထောင်ပေါင်းများစွာသော လူများ ရေလွှမ်းမှုကြောင့် နေရပ်စွန့်ခွာရခဲ့သည်။

11. Endure 

~ To suffer through something difficult for a long time.

~ ကြာရှည်စွာ မခံနိုင်လောက်သောအရာကို ခံစားရခြင်း။

Example: The villagers had to endure days of flooding.

ကျေးရွာသားများသည် ရေလွှမ်းမှုကို နေ့ရက်များစွာ ခံရပြီးကြသည်။

12. Civil war 

~ A war between groups within the same country.

~ တစ်နိုင်ငံအတွင်း တိုက်ပွဲဖြစ်ပွားခြင်း။

Example: Myanmar has been suffering from civil war for years.

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံသည် နှစ်ပေါင်းများစွာ ပြည်တွင်းတိုက်ပွဲများကြောင့် ဒုက္ခရောက်နေရသည်။

13. Torrential rains 

~ Very heavy rain.

~ အလွန်အမင်း မိုးများရွာခြင်း။

Example: Torrential rains caused severe flooding in Myanmar.

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံတွင် အလွန်များသော မိုးရွာခြင်းကြောင့် ရေလွှမ်းမှုများ ဖြစ်ပွားခဲ့သည်။

14. Deadliest storms 

~ The most dangerous and deadly storms.

~ လူအများဆုံး သေဆုံးစေသော မုန်တိုင်းများ။

Example: One of the deadliest storms in history hit Myanmar this year.

သမိုင်းတွင် လူအများဆုံးသေဆုံးစေသော မုန်တိုင်းတစ်ခု ယခုနှစ် မြန်မာနိုင်ငံရောက်ရှိခဲ့သည်။

15. Hit 

~ When something bad happens in a place.

~ တနေရာရာကို မကောင်းသောအရာတစ်ခု ထိခိုက်လာခြင်း။

Example: The typhoon hit the coastal regions hard.

မုန်တိုင်းသည် ကမ်းရိုးတန်းဒေသများကို ပြင်းထန်စွာ ထိခိုက်ခဲ့သည်။

16. Killed 

~ When someone dies because of an event.

~ တစ်ဦးတစ်ယောက်က တစ်စုံတစ်ရာကြောင့် သေဆုံးခြင်း။

Example: Many people were killed by the floods.

ရေလွှမ်းမှုကြောင့် လူအများစု သေဆုံးခဲ့သည်။

17. Receive rescue and relief aid 

~ To get help and support during a disaster.

~ အရေးပေါ်ကယ်ဆယ်မှုနှင့် ကူညီပေးခြင်းများ ရရှိခြင်း။

Example: The flood victims received rescue and relief aid from volunteers.

ရေလွှမ်းမှုကြောင့် ဒုက္ခရောက်သူများသည် စေတနာ၀န်ထမ်းများထံမှ ကူညီမှုများ ရရှိခဲ့သည်။

18. Victims 

~ People who are hurt or affected by a disaster.

~ အန္တရာယ်ဖြစ်ပွားမှုကြောင့် ဒုက္ခရောက်သော လူများ။

Example: Flood victims were provided with food and shelter.

ရေလွှမ်းဒဏ်ခံရသူများကို စားနပ်ရိက္ခာနှင့် နေအိမ်များ စီစဉ်ပေးခဲ့သည်။

19. Rehabilitation 

~ Helping people to recover or rebuild after a disaster.

~ သဘာ၀ဘေးသင့်ပြီးနောက် အန္တရာယ်မဖြစ်မီအခြေအနေမျိုးသို့ ပြန်လည်ကောင်းမွန်စေခြင်း။

Example: The government started rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected areas.

အစိုးရက ရေလွှမ်းဒေသများအတွက် ပြန်လည်ထူထောင်ရေး လုပ်ဆောင်မှုများ စတင်ခဲ့သည်။

20. As quickly as possible 

~ As fast as something can be done.

~ အလျင်အမြန် ဖြစ်နိုင်သမျှ လုပ်ဆောင်ခြင်း။

Example: Rescue teams arrived as quickly as possible after the floods.

ကယ်ဆယ်ရေးအသင်းများ ရေလွှမ်းပြီးနောက် အမြန်ဆုံး ရောက်ရှိခဲ့သည်။

21. Oversee

~To supervise or watch over something.

~ကြီးကြပ်ကြည့်ရှုခြင်း။

Example: The organisation oversees rescue operations in the flood areas.

အဖွဲ့အစည်းက ရေလွှမ်းဒေသများတွင် ကယ်ဆယ်ရေးလုပ်ငန်းများကို ကြီးကြပ်ခဲ့သည်။

22. Block

~ To stop something from moving or happening.

~ တားဆီးခြင်း။

Example: Roads were blocked by floodwaters, making rescue efforts difficult.

ရေလွှမ်းမှုကြောင့် လမ်းများ ပိတ်ဆို့ခံရပြီး ကယ်ဆယ်ရေးအကူအညီများ ပိုမိုခက်ခဲသွားသည်။

23. Frustrated

~Feeling upset because something is difficult or delayed.

~ အလုပ်မဖြစ် ခက်ခဲ/ နှောင့်နှေးလို့ အရမ်းစိတ်ညစ်လာခြင်း။

Example: People were frustrated as they waited for help during the floods.

ရေလွှမ်းစဉ် အကူအညီစောင့်ဆိုင်းချိန်တွင် လူများ စိတ်ပန်းကြရသည်။

24. Humanitarian assistance

~ Help given to people who are suffering, especially in emergencies.

~ အရေးပေါ် အခြေအနေရှိလူများကို အကူအညီပေးခြင်း။

Example: Many countries sent humanitarian assistance to Myanmar after the floods.

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံကို ရေလွှမ်းပြီးနောက် နိုင်ငံများစွာမှ လူသားချင်းစာနာမှုအကူအညီပို့ပေးခဲ့သည်။

25. Abroad

~ In or to another country.

~ နိုင်ငံတကာတွင်၊ နိုင်ငံခြား။

Example: Many Myanmar citizens living abroad sent money to help flood victims.

နိုင်ငံခြားရောက် မြန်မာပြည်သူများက ရေလွှမ်းဒုက္ခသည်များကို အကူအညီပေးရန် ငွေ ပို့ပေးခဲ့သည်။

26. Yagi

~ The name of a typhoon that caused severe flooding.

~ ရေလွှမ်းစေသော Yagi မုန်တိုင်း၏ အမည်။

Example: Typhoon Yagi brought heavy rains and floods to Myanmar.

27. Swamp

~ A wet, flooded area of land.

~ ရေကာလွှမ်းနေသော မြေပြန့်။

Example: The village turned into a swamp after the floods.

ရေလွှမ်းပြီးနောက် ကျေးရွာသည် ရေကာလွှမ်းနေသော မြေပြန့်ဖြစ်သွားသည်။

28. Floodwaters

~ Water that overflows and covers the land during floods.

~ ရေလွှမ်းစဉ် အရေအတွက်မတွက်နိုင်အောင် များစွာဖြစ်သော ရေများ။

Example: The floodwaters reached the rooftops of many houses.

ရေလွှမ်းမှုသည် အိမ်အများအပြား၏ အိမ်ခေါင်မိုးများထိရောက်သွားသည်။

29. Residents

~ People who live in a particular place.

~ တစ်နေရာတွင် အခြေချနေထိုင်သူများ။

Example: The residents of the town were forced to evacuate due to flooding.

မြို့တွင် နေထိုင်သူများ ရေလွှမ်းမှုကြောင့် ထွက်ပြေးသွားရသည်။

30. Strand

~ To be stuck in a place with no way to leave.

~ လွတ်မြောက်ရန်လမ်းမရှိဘဲ မဖြစ်နိုင်အခြေအနေဖြစ်နေခြင်း။

Example: Many people were stranded on rooftops waiting for rescue.

လူအများစု အိမ်ခေါင်မိုးပေါ်တွင် ကယ်ဆယ်ရေးစောင့်နေကြရသည်။

31. Rooftops

~ The tops of buildings or houses.

~ အိမ်ခေါင်မိုးများ။

Example: People were sitting on rooftops to escape the rising floodwaters.

လူများသည် ရေများများ လာသောကြောင့် အိမ်ခေါင်မိုးပေါ်တွင် ထိုင်နေကြသည်။

32. Buried in landslides

~ Covered by earth and debris due to a landslide.

~ မြေပြိုမှုကြောင့် မြေတူးမြေပုံအောက်တွင် ဖုံးလွှမ်းခံရခြင်း။

Example: Several houses were buried in landslides caused by the heavy rains.

မိုးအလွန်များ၍ ဖြစ်ပွားသော မြေပြိုမှုကြောင့် အိမ်အချို့ မြေကြီးအောက်တွင် ဖုံးလွှမ်းခံရသည်။

33. Gold-mining area

~ A place where people dig for gold.

~ ရွှေတူးဖော်နေသော ဒေသ။

Example: The floods affected several gold-mining areas in Myanmar.

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံတွင် ရေလွှမ်းမှုကြောင့် ရွှေတူးဖော်နေသောဒေသများစွာ ထိခိုက်ခဲ့သည်။

34. Paddled

~ To move a boat or raft using a stick or paddle.

~ သင်္ဘောကို ငါးမျှားတုတ်နှင့် ရွက်လှေထိုး၍ ရွှေ့ခြင်း။

Example: Villagers paddled makeshift rafts to escape the flooded area.

ကျေးရွာသားများသည် လက်လုပ်လှေငယ်များ လှော်ပြီးရေလွှမ်းမှုမှ ထွက်ပြေးကြသည်။

35. Makeshift raft

~ A temporary boat made quickly using available materials.

~ အခြေအနေအရ လျင်မြန်စွာ ပြင်ဆင်ထားသော လက်လုပ်လှေ။

Example: The villagers used makeshift rafts to escape the flood.

ကျေးရွာသားများသည် ရေလွှမ်းမှုမှ ထွက်ရန် လက်လုပ်လှေ

များကို အသုံးပြုခဲ့သည်။

36. Lapping

~ Water gently touching or moving against something.

~ တဖျပ်ဖျပ်ရိုက်ခတ်သည်။

Example: The floodwaters were lapping against the rooftops of houses.

ရေကြီးမှုကြောင့် အိမ်ပေါ်တွင် ရေပြင်းထန်စွာ ရုတ်တရက် တိုရိုက်ခတ်နေသည်။

37. Rescuers

~ People who save others from danger.

~အန္တရာယ်မှ လူများကို ကယ်တင်သောသူများ။

Example: Rescuers worked day and night to save people stranded in floodwaters.

ကယ်ဆယ်ရေးဝန်ထမ်းများသည် ရေကြီးသူများကို ကယ်တင်ရန် နေ့ညမရွေး လုပ်ဆောင်နေကြသည်။

38. Speedboat

~ A fast-moving boat used in emergencies.

~ အလျင်မြန်ရွေ့လျားနိုင်သော အမြန်သင်္ဘော။

Example: The rescue team used a speedboat to reach flood victims.

ကယ်ဆယ်ရေးအသင်းသည် ရေလွှမ်းဒုက္ခသည်များထံ အလျင်မြန်ရောက်ရှိရန် အမြန်သင်္ဘောကို အသုံးပြုခဲ့သည်။

39. Sagging

~ Something that is hanging or sinking down.

~ အလျော့ကျနေသောအရာ။

Example: The roof of the house was sagging under the weight of the floodwaters.

ရေ၏ အလေးချိန်ကြောင့် အိမ်၏ ခေါင်မိုးသည် အိကျ/လျော့ကျနေသည်။

40. Turmoil

~ A state of confusion, disorder, or chaos.

~ ရှုပ်ထွေးခြင်း။

Example: The country was in turmoil after the floods and the ongoing civil war.

ရေလွှမ်းမှုနှင့် ပြည်တွင်းစစ်ကြောင့် နိုင်ငံမှာ ရှုပ်ထွေးခြင်းဖြစ်ပွားနေသည်။

Today we are going to learn "Past simple: irregular verb forms".  An irregular verb means it is not following the usual rules of grammar. For example, ‘eat’ is an irregular verb because its past tense is ‘ate’ and its past participle is ‘eaten’, not ‘eated’.  Likewise, 'hide' is an irregular verb because its past tense is 'hid' and its past participle is 'hid'. 

Most verbs have a past tense and past participle with –ed:  

For example, brush, brushed - wash, washed

  But many of the most frequent verbs are irregular:

eat, ate, eaten စားသည်

drink, drank, drunk ရေသောက်သည်

take, took, taken  ယူသည်

go, went, gone သွားသည်

be was/were been ရှိသည်/ဖြစ်သည်

begin began begun စတင်သည်

break broke broken အက်ကွဲစေသည်။ ခွဲသည်။ ချိုးသည်။ ကွဲစေသည်။ ပျက်စီးစေသည်။ 

bring brought brought ယူလာသည်။ ပါလာသည်။ သယ်ဆောင် လာသည်။ ခေါ်လာသည်။

buy bought bought ဝယ်သည်။ ဝယ်ပေးသည်။
